Eight changes are listed by CS Moses Kuria for NYS ahead of nationwide recruitment.
Moses Kuria, the cabinet secretary for public service, has announced eight modifications that the National Youth Service (NYS) will implement in front of the nationwide recruitment drive that is set for February 5–9.
Kuria claims that the eight modifications are meant to enhance the quality of the service and offer employment prospects to Kenyans who join NYS.
First off, under the new paradigm, 80 percent of new recruits for the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and the National Police Service (NPS) will come from the NYS.
The new recruitment approach will also be applied to the hiring process for Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) and Kenya Forest Services (KFS).
However, the CS stated that the majority of government-negotiated employment overseas will go to NYS recruits.
Seventy percent of Kenyans who are sent abroad for employment will be NYS officers under the new paradigm.
“The best paramilitary and technical training will be provided to new recruits from the NYS.
“NYS servicemen and women will be deployed for National Service in securing government buildings, construction, engineering, water, sanitation, agriculture, and climate change mitigation among others,” said the Chief of Staff.
Regarding hiring, the CS stated that in order to improve transparency, the names of selected candidates will be posted on a public website.
“All Sub County Headquarters in the New York State will conduct recruitment in a transparent manner. According to the CS, all accepted applicants will take home their acceptance letters, their information posted at the recruitment center, and a public site for openness.

NYS Hiring
Meanwhile, from February 5 to February 9, NYS will be recruiting nationwide.
The exercise is intended for Kenyans who completed the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with a mean grade of D plain or above and are between the ages of 18 and 24.
“An original National Identity Card, academic transcripts (of which one set of photocopies can be obtained at the recruitment center), and a certificate of good conduct are required of all prospective candidates.
“Successful candidates will report for the NYS paramilitary course at NYS College, Gigil and NYSTTI Naivasha on dates and times specified in their respective calling letters to be issued,” according to a portion of the recruiting notification.
